21 Days Of Christmas: Proclamation

Christmas is proclamation. Remember the song? “Go, tell it on the mountain, over the hills and everywhere; go, tell it on the mountain that Jesus Christ is born.” I’m not sure if the shepherds actually scaled the nearby mountain range but I do know that they “made known the statement which had been told them about this Child.” There was no way they were going to remain silent. The news was too great, too glorious to be kept to themselves. The long-awaited Savior had been born. The redemption of humanity was at hand. Angels had announced it and now the shepherds were proclaiming it. We could learn a lot from those shepherds in this modern age. We espouse our political views. We fanatically represent our favorite sports teams. But when it comes to Jesus we have become increasingly silent in the public arena. Tragic. If Jesus truly is the reason for the season, then we His people should be much more emboldened in our declaration. On that first Christmas the shepherds couldn’t hold in it. On this Christmas we shouldn’t.
